Benjamin set for Australian tour

This Sunday, Benjamin will be setting off on a tour around Australia with concerts in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.

The tour begins on the 16th September at Brisbane with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO), where Benjamin will be performing works by Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Granados and Ravel at South Bank. He'll then be performing the same programme with the QSO the following night at the City Recital Hall in Sydney - more information can be found here.

A few days later, Benjamin joins the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for three performances of Schumann's Piano Concerto at the Melbourne Arts Centre on the 21st, 22nd and 24th September under the baton of Xian Zhang. The tour then concludes in Adelaide on the 28th and 29th September, where Benjamin performs Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Mark Wigglesworth. Benjamin recently received a fantastic review from Diapason for his performance of this work at the Chopin and his Europe Festival:

"The next day, Benjamin Grosvenor's performance of Chopin's Concerto No. 2 was one of the most sensational ever heard, whether in concert or on record… Under the fingers of the twenty-six-year-old artist, well supported by Kaspszyk (this time at the head of the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra), it proceeded with such alacrity, and with so much character, that it passed as if in a dream.

It is difficult to imagine a more glittering performance, a more pleasing panache, or more taste than this account, an ideal combination of virility and finesse. The English pianist made the Larghetto his own, taken with fervour, with a nobility of tone that put him beyond the realm of mere sentimentality, or of short-live affectation. Two encores – an Etude of Moszkowski and Lilacs of Rachmaninov – see him walk in the footsteps of the greatest. A dazzling conclusion to a festival rich in major names of piano and ambitious programming.”
