Benjamin Grosvenor makes directing debut with Britten Sinfonia

Benjamin made his directing debut last month, leading Britten Sinfonia from the keyboard in his first performances with the orchestra. The four concert series also marked Jacqueline Shave's 10 years as Leader of the ensemble.

Benjamin and Britten Sinfonia performed Mozart’s last Piano Concerto No. 27 in concerts in Cambridge, Norwich, Bradford on Avon and London. Reviewing their performance at London's Milton Court Concert Hall, the Independent commented:

"Under Grosvenor's faultless touch, every tiny shift of temperature and nuance was made eloquent and entirely coherent ... a revelatory performance."

Of the same performance, the Guardian wrote:

"Benjamin Grosvenor took over the ensemble’s direction with the lightest of touches in his luminously voiced, faultlessly articulated interpretation of Mozart’s final piano concerto".

The Milton Court concert was also broadcast on BBC Radio 3 in Concert on 9 May. Listen again here (expires 7 June).
