Benjamin’s third album for Decca receives major award

Benjamin Grosvenor’s most recent recording Dances has been awarded a BBC Music Magazine Award in the Instrumental category. The album, described by Gramophone as offering “…performance after performance of surpassing brilliance and character” takes the listener on a journey from Bach to Gould. BBC Music magazine writes: “His Dances CD breathes the air of another age of piano recitals, where Baroque dances rubbed shoulders with Romantic miniatures and virtuoso extemporisations.”

The disc has picked up five-star reviews all over the world, and been referred to as a “marvel” (Diapason), “pure magic” (Sinfini Music) and “a revelation and [setting] a new standard” (American Record Guide) confirming Benjamin’s status as “one of the best young pianists” (Sonntagszeitung Zürich).

The awards ceremony, coinciding with the beginning of Benjamin’s Asia tour meant he was unable to receive the award in person. In an interview for the magazine when asked how he felt about his success he responded: “It’s most gratifying to have all of the hard work recognised in this way, and I’m pleased and relieved to know that people have enjoyed listening to it.”
