Benjamin’s Barbican debut receives 4 stars from The Telegraph and The Guardian

February 12, 2015

Benjamin Grosvenor’s January Barbican recital has received much praise in the national press, including 4 star reviews in both The Telegraph and The Guardian.

Both reviewers agree this was a coming of age recital. Erica Jeal stated Benjamin “has left the child prodigy tag far behind him – and his debut Barbican recital demonstrated just how far” (Guardian) while John Allison observed “this big Barbican recital confirmed not just the way the musical world views him but the way in which he views music.” (Telegraph)

Noting his “individual” and “beautifully judged” performances of Chopin in particular, both reviewers also commented on the intelligence behind his playing:
“[Benjamin] is clearly an artist with something to say about most areas of the repertoire.” (Allison)

“Grosvenor is constantly searching for new things in the music he plays, and that he confidently expects to find them. It’s an attitude that pays off.” (Jeal)
